The grants is the monetary assistance that is provided free of any cost. In each country, there is a special department that looks towards the development of small business. Every year, the government passes to total amount of the grants that have to be passed to the needy ones. In the United States, the office that is looking after the development of the small business at the national level and is giving all the instructions is the small business administration grants. It is popularly known as SBA. The grants provided by the SBA are known as small business administration grants. Let us discuss more about it in our next part of discussion.
SMALL BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION OF UNITED STATES
SBA is the organization at the national level that is making all the policies and supervises the development of the small business at the national level. First of all, it should be made very clear at the first outset that the SBA itself is not passing any grants for the small business directly. It is basically a loan program. By the term loan program, we mean that the SBA offers various types of loans and the technical assistance programs. There are special programs for women, minorities and the veterans that are included in the overall SBA loan program. In each of the state of United States of America, the various programs that are being run for the development of small business are under the supervision of the SBA. Each year, the SBA comes out with a review of the various assistance programs that are being run at the national level for the disadvantaged business. As said earlier also, grants are not provided directly to the small business entrepreneurs by the small business administration. But it also does not mean that grants are not there under the umbrella of the SBA. There are some grants that are provided by the SBA. But, these small business administration grants are not given to the persons who wishes to startup or expand their small business enterprise but are given to various organizations that are providing assistance of various types to the individuals. So, it can be rightly said that the small business administration does not provide any monetary grants directly to any individual for start or expansion of the small business in any of the state of the U.S.

ASSISTANCE FROM SBA
Let us discuss about the grants of SBA. The various forms in which the grants is given by the small business administration grants, there are various agencies that work under the federal government and are supervising the grants being provided by SBA. The grants are basically given for making researches and to the organizations that provide assistance in development of the small business enterprises.
There is a program called as SBIR Program. This is Small Business Innovation Research Program. The total number of federal agencies that are associated with this program is 10.
This program is also entrusted with the responsibility of conducting researches and on the basis of these researches, various development programs are designed.
The other program being run by the small business administration for the development of the small business is the STTR program. It stands for the Small Business Technology Transfer program. The total number of agencies that work under STTR is 5. It also passes about 0.15% of the funds for the joint efforts of the small business enterprises and the various non-profit research institutions.
Thus, it can be said that the above two programs are concerned with making researches and on the basis of the researches made, various decisions are taken by the SBA.
Before a person approaches SBA or any of its offices, he should assure following:
1- The small business that he is planning is viable.
2- Is the area of operation of the small business has been declared as a special zone etc. This is because if it comes under special zone, getting the grant would be easier.
3- All other requirements of business would be fulfilled like the transport, labor etc.
SO, THERE ARE NO DIRECT GRANTS FROM SBA
Thus, it can be said that though there are no direct grants from SBA, many other type of assistance is being provided by the small business administration. All this assistance is included in the small business administration grants.
