- Begin on any Wednesday (Allston/Brighton YMCA) Lectures begin at 6:30 PM and pool sessions follow at 8:00PM until 9:30PM. There are 8 sessions (one per week).
- After pool training, 5 openwater (ocean) dives are required before a certification card can be issued. These dives are conducted on a single weekend (Saturday and Sunday) on a date compatible with the student's schedule.
- Ocean "checkout" dives are separate from the YMCA program. There is a separate fee ($100.00) paid to the instructor on the scheduled weekend and an equipment rental fee (usually $80.00) for the total scuba package. All dive shops rent this equipment.
- Courses are co-ed with a minimum age of 15 years.
- The instructor will supply tanks, weightbelts and bouyancy compensators (BCs). You will need to purchase your own mask, fins, boots and snorkel. However, they will not be required for the first 3 sessions. You may use our equipment on loan until then.
- There is a $40.00 fee for your textbooks and study material. This fee is paid directly to your instructor at your first class.
- The YMCA Scuba registration fee is $170.00 for Y members. The non-member fee is $250.00. The fee is payable by cash check or credit card.
- Students who miss a session due to work or illness will continue where they left off, when they return.
